Health Care Companies return $7 Million to New York State

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Two companies that administered health care for New York State Medicaid recipients have agreed to return 7-million dollars.

A state audit found that many Medicaid recipients were mistakenly assigned more than one identification number. As a result the state was sometimes billed several times for a single patient.

The office of the Attorney General is working with social service agencies and the Health Department to correct the problem of multiple ID numbers. Attorney General Andrew Cuomo estimates that total refunds could exceed 30-million dollars.
