New Ads Ask NYers to Help Tourists

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

In a new effort to make the city more tourist-friendly, officials are turning to experts: New Yorkers themselves.

REPORTER: NYC and Company president Jonathan Tisch says the new ad campaign is called "Just ask the Locals:"

TISCH: We had 44 million visitors last year. We set a record. People are coming to New York in droves. What this campaign is doing is just asking the average New Yorker: if they see a visitor who looks a little perplexed, befuddled, or not knowing where they're going, to just reach out and say Hi, Can I Help You?

REPORTER: The tourism campaign includes outdoor ads, and brochures with tips about navigating New York.
