Grades for City's Schools Released Today

Most of the city's 1400 schools are getting their “grades” today. The new progress reports focus heavily on test scores, but 55 percent of the grade is based on how well the schools have done in helping all kids raise their math, English and history scores.
A few prestigious schools such as Stuyvesant and Bronx High School of Science got A's. But other well-regarded schools such as IS 289 in Lower Manhattan got a “D” for not making more progress, while a few schools in struggling communities such as PS 126 in the South Bronx got an A for raising test scores.
Critics such as Time Out From Testing and Class Size Matters have already blasted the city for relying too much on test scores.
