The Triborough Bridge Renamed after RFK

A day before what would have been his 83rd birthday, New York paid a huge tribute to the late senator, Robert F. Kennedy, in concrete and steel. The Triborough Bridge was renamed after the slain senator, in a ceremony at a Queens park at its base that drew Kennedy's wife, Ethel, and several generations of the Kennedy clan, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The environmental advocate says his dad appealed to people of all religions, races, and incomes.

KENNEDY: For me, therefore, this bridge is such an appropriate memorial to my father because he was able to bridge all of those different interests in our country. This diverse country, that contains all these different kinds of people.

REPORTER: The RFK Bridge is the first major public work to be named after the late senator and attorney general. Kennedy was assassinated in 1968 while seeking the Democratic nomination for president.
