A family has escaped unharmed as their Long Island house was destroyed in an explosion Sunday.

The two-story building in Amityville was leveled. Shards of wood and furniture were scattered over the house's lawn and driveway. One car was crushed by the home's roof. The couple and two children who lived in the house smelled gas and got out before the blast.
