Official: MTA Might Face More Cuts

The next round of transit fare hikes and service cuts hasn't even taken effect yet, and now an MTA official says more might be needed because of a sharper-than-expected decline in state tax revenues.
The chief financial officer of the MTA, Gary Dellaverson, cited the new projection yesterday. He refused to give details of what's being considered, but he says to balance the budget the MTA could make deeper cuts or increase fares a second time before the end of the year.
A state bailout of the MTA backed by Governor Paterson has been bogged down in the legislature.
