Floyd Flake Endorses Bloomberg

Mayor Bloomberg's bid for a third term has won the endorsement from the Reverend Floyd Flake.

REPORTER:The backing of the senior pastor of the Greater Allen African Methodist Episcopal Cathedral in Jamaica Queens is significant, according to Bloomberg's campaign manager, Bradley Tusk.

TUSK: Reverend Flake is one of the leading religious figures and clergy members in all of New York city, a former congressman. He has a tremendous amount of influence and credibility across the city. He's extremely popular in Southeast Queens, which is a major area for us where we hope to get a lot of votes.

REPORTER: Flake endorsed Bloomberg in 2005, but not when he first ran in 2001. Joining the Reverend for today's announcement was state Assemblywoman Barbara Clark. The Queens Democrat is the first sitting black elected official in New York to endorse the mayor over his an African-American challenger, city Comptroller Bill Thompson.
