Extensive Subway Diversions This Weekend

WNYC News | Jul 12, 2010

Subway riders should expect more subway disruptions than usual this weekend because of heavy track work. New York City Transit says there will be delays or diversions on 17 subway lines. WNYC's Matthew Schuerman has more.

REPORTER: Along certain stretches, shuttle buses will replace the subway, while elsewhere, trains will go express instead of local, or vice versa. A and C service will be disrupted at three points along its lengthy route: in upper Manhattan, midtown, and in the Rockaways.

A transit spokeswoman says weekend diversions have steadily increased over the past few months, as major projects have gotten underway to repair tunnel lights, replace switching systems, and overhaul stations and tracks.

This weekend, there are slightly more diversions than usual because contractors need to finish their outdoor work before the cold weather sets in. For WNYC, I'm Matthew Schuerman.
