Bloomberg Administration Orders More Mid-Year Cuts

Once again a poorly performing economy has the Bloomberg Administration calling for mid-year budget cuts. WNYC's Bob Hennelly has more.

REPORTER: By December third city managers have to find hundreds of millions in cuts this fiscal year and $1.2 billion for next. This time Schools, Police and Fire don't have to cut as deeply as the other agencies - but everyone is taking a hit.

For agencies like the Health Department it means cutting four percent now and eight percent next year. Ronnie Lowenstein with the Independent Budget office says there are still major unknowns.

LOWENSTEIN: What happens to the economic recovery and whether those federal stimulus dollars are still there as long as we need them.
