Barron Says He'll Challenge Cuomo for Governor

Politics | Jun 14, 2010

Brooklyn City Councilman Charles Barron says there's not enough diversity on the Democratic ticket, and he'll run for governor to protest.

Barron, who's black, says he's upset over Andrew Cuomo's selection of a white, male running mate, Rochester Mayor Robert Duffy. All the Democrats running statewide this year are white. Barron says he'll run on a new line on the ballot, the New York Freedom Democratic Party, to challenge Cuomo. Cuomo's campaign declined to comment on Barron's plans.
