#2176: Program #2176

New Sounds | May 24, 2010
Swiss violinist Paul Giger's ECM disc O Ignis finds him in the distinguished company of the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir under Tõnu Kaljuste, performing arrangements of pieces by Hildegarde von Bingen and the monks of St. Gallen as well as new improvisatory works by Giger. We hear this disc on tonight's edition of New Sounds. Also, we hear "Hymni," an extend work by Vladimir Martynov, which reflects his interests in the folk music of Russia's Caucasus and Tadjikistan regions.
