Eyvind Kang--violinist, composer, conceptualist, and world traveler--presents his travelogue of Icelandic sights and sounds in The Story of Iceland. The 45-minute work, recorded for John Zorn’s Tzadik label, draws on an array of underground rock, classical, and world music styles and features a sixteen-piece band that encompasses everything from Indian violin solos by Kala Ramnath to some spellbinding gamelan playing. The composer is featured playing the tuba, euphonium, viola, violin, percussion, voice, erhu, pennywhistle, oud, guitar, and electric bass.
