#5129, New Sounds Live at National Sawdust: Bruce Brubaker Plays Glass and Eno
Philip Glass and Brian Eno are two vastly different composers with distinct creative tendencies, yet somehow, their works fit Bruce Brubaker’s piano reinterpretations like a glove. Brubaker’s New Sounds Live performance at National Sawdust on February 12, 2026, proved once again that when it’s him playing the piano, it’s easy to find a common thread between their compositions as well as his own.
Recorded in front of a live audience, this exclusive recital pulls Brubaker’s artistry into focus, stripped from the electronic enhancements of the prepared piano he often records with. His playing is emotive and widely dynamic, forming each musical phrase with care.
Perhaps his meticulous renditions should not come as a surprise, considering his stellar career as a music scholar. Besides establishing his name as an experienced concert pianist who is often associated with the alternative classical movement, Brubaker is also known for his tenure as a faculty member at the Juilliard School for nine years and at New England Conservatory for the past two decades. He continues to serve as the Curator of Piano Programming and the Co-Chair of the Piano department at NEC today.
Join us as we revisit this memorable night of music with Brubaker, filled with pensive piano arpeggios and chord progressions, as well as a lively chat between the artist and our host, John Schaefer. - Sırma Munyar
