#5055 New Releases, Sept. 2025

New Sounds | Sep 30, 2025

It's the most wonderful time of the month - when we share the latest, newest sounds to have reached our earholes! Hear new music by the German/Swiss duo Grandbrothers from their latest, Elsewhere, on which they take the sound of a single grand piano and transform it, in real time, into highly processed, often unrecognizably reconfigured music. Listen to their club-leaning blend of minimalism and electronica, composed of rhythm tracks, soaring synthesizer lines, and more from the live playing of that piano. Then, there’s new music by harpist Mary Lattimore and vocalist/composer/synth player Julianna Barwick recorded on instruments from the Musée de la Musique de la Philharmonie de Paris. Listen also to new music by London-based composer Donna McKevitt from her score to the documentary film Irvine Welsh: Reality Is Not Enough  - about Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh, covering DJing, drug experiences, travels, sports, and literary work.

Plus, John Cage’s birthday month is September! Hear a piece by John Cage, 'In a Landscape", as performed by Los Angeles based composer and pianist Thomas Kotcheff with added treatments and electronics by synthesist and recording engineer Bryan Curt Kostors. Then, listen to a Cage-inspired piece by Russian-born, American-based composer and pianist Anton Batagov, titled for the sounds surrounding the location of Cage’s Manhattan apartment of “6th Avenue & West 18th Street”. That, and more. - Caryn Havlik
