It’s the most wonderful time of the month! Hear music from Danish string trio Halvcirkel, South Afircan singer Thandiswa, and Tuareg guitarist Mdou Moctar along with music by L.A. based composer Tashi Wada, featuring Julia Holter; and Caroline Shaw, Sō Percussion, featuring Ringdown.
Listen to original music which combines minimalism with the medieval and postmodern. It’s from Danish ensemble Halvcikel, who cite as inspiration composers Brian Eno, Craig Leon, Carl Nielsen, Arvo Part, and Caroline Shaw, as well as founding father of minimalism, Terry Riley. Then, there’s music from South African singer Thandiswa, who blends the distinctive sounds of South African jazz with that country’s contemporary electronic pop.
Hear ecstatic song-based work by Los Angeles-based composer Tashi Wada, featuring the voice of Julia Holter, along with harpsichord. There’s also shred-tastic music from Tuareg guitarist Mdou Moctar and his band, as well as Moroccan trance music from traditional Gnawa musician Abdel Benaddi. Also, listen to harpist Mary Lattimore in collaboration with accordionist/composer Walt McClements (who tours with Weyes Blood.) Lattimore describes it as “a smattering of joyful harp, accordion, piano, synth, and bell experiments embroidered with memories of long drives and bears in a tree and late nights.“ That, and more. - Caryn Havlik
