Listen to music for strings, plus…, featuring Jordan Bak on both viola and vocals in music by Hawaiian composer Anne Leilehua Lanzilotti, a work for 41 strings and guitarist Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), and Kronos Quartet playing work by John Adams.
Jamaican-American violist Jordan Bak plays Anne Leilehua Lanzilotti’s ko’u inoa (2017), a piece built on the “Hawai’i Aloha” anthem and featuring Bak’s vocals in the piece’s final section. Then, listen to music by guitarist Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) for large string orchestra by electric guitars and expanded rhythm section. It’s part of a cinematic and symphonic song cycle commissioned for the 41st Annual Earth Day, and with movements corresponding to the four seasons.
