There’s music for clarinet and electronics with works by sound artist and composer Lea Bertucci, Finnish duo Tapani Rinne and Juha Mäki-Patola, and New Yorker David Garland.
Multi-instrumentalist Lea Bertucci deploys bass clarinet, alto sax, manipulated tape, and field recording on her record, A Visible Length of Light. Hear “On Opposite Sides of Sleep,” which is the product of “real-time reactions to, and reflections upon, the instability of the year 2020,” for sax and keys (Lea Bertucci’s Bandcamp.)
Then, listen to veteran Finnish musicians and improvisers – saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer Tapani Rinne together with Juha Maki-Patola, who is a producer, musician, and engineer from their album, Open. The music is Nordic-seeming, spacious, atmospheric jazz which brings to mind emerging from the darkness of winter, (Juha Maki-Patola’s Instagram.)
