Etudes and Parodies

Evening Music | May 6, 2010
Etudes and Parodies was one of the "traditional" works Lansky started writing for his instrumentalist friends over the last several years (this one in particular was for French horn player William Purvis). Lansky played the horn himself before turning to composing, but this was the first piece he wrote for the instrument. The Etudes show off the virtuosic qualities of the horn, while the Parodies explore various genres, including gypsy, funk, film noir—and even the sounds you might hear coming from a horn player's practice room.
