In anticipation of tomorrow evening’s live-from-Carnegie-Hall broadcast of the Vienna Philharmonic, we’ll highlight the orchestra’s versatility on this evening’s show with several examples from its extraordinary recording career.
The Vienna Phil struts its stuff under various leaders: John Eliot Gardiner conducts Sir Edward Elgar’s “Introduction and Allegro”; Herbert von Karajan offers the Introduction to Tchaikovsky’s “Sleeping Beauty” ballet; Gary Bertini essays the Brahms Serenade No. 2 in A; and Riccardo Muti takes on the Ballet Music from Schubert’s “Rosamunde.”
The fabulous four hands of Emanuel Ax and Yefim Bronfman range across the ivories as they play Rachmaninoff’s Suite No. 1 for Two Pianos. These two great artists can be heard live on Wednesday, March 16th, at Avery Fisher Hall, when they will perform works by Debussy, Ravel, Schumann (arr. by Debussy), and Stravinsky. Check it out!
