Scriabin Magic and More

Written when the composer was only 24 years old, the achingly beautiful Piano Concerto in F-sharp Minor is filled with the familiar filigree typical of Alexander Scriabin, but merely hints at the mystic ecstasy characteristic of his later writing. Scriabin himself was the soloist in the 1897 premiere. Tonight's performance demonstrates how much pianist Anatoli Ugorski liked performing the work along with Pierre Boulez and the Chicago Symphony.
