#4342: Music of Calm
For this New Sounds, hear music of calm, not necessarily droney music where nothing happens, but sample work by Italian guitarists Pino Forastiere and Paolo Angeli, along with music by Norwegians Nils Petter Molvær and Trond Kallevåg Hansen.
Hear music of tranquility, and a prayer to not be left alone, from Italian singer-songwriter, composer, filmmaker and painter Franco Battiato. There’s also music by British composer, Poppy Ackroyd, who is a classically trained pianist, violinist, and producer. Then, sample work by Cuban pianist Omar Sosa, his piece, “Calma.”
Listen to Norwegian guitarist and composer Trond Kallevåg Hansen, from his northern ambient, country music meets the front-porch folk with pedal steel guitar record of spacious chamber jazz called Bedehus & Hawaii. There’s also fingerstyle guitar by Italian virtuoso Pino Forastiere, and music for prepared Sardinian guitar by Paolo Angeli. Angeli plays a guitar that has two extra sets of sympathetic strings, a set of foot-operated hammers, and a way to make the strings sound as though they’re being bowed.
