#4325: Music Inspired by Nature
Hear works inspired by or related to the natural world by the Icelandic composer María Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir, Apollo Chamber Players, big dog little dog, and John Luther Adams.
There’s an otherworldly cloud-like work by Vietnamese composer Vũ Nhât Tân featuring the Apollo Chamber Players and Vanessa Võ for string quartet and the Đàn bầu, a Vietnamese monochord zither. Then, hear music by Icelandic composer and violinist Maria Huld Markan Sigfusdottir (also of the group amiina) and her work, “Oceans.”
Listen also to the string duo big dog little dog, who are violinist/composer Jessie Montgomery and bassist/songwriter Eleonore Oppenheim. Their music is about and inspired by the woods of Northeast Pennsylvania. Music by naturalist and recovering percussionist John Luther Adams, his “Become Desert” rounds out the show. - Caryn Havlik
