#4284: From the Soundcheck Podcast
From the Soundcheck Podcast series, listen to country music from Rwanda by The Good Ones, Balkan-Klezmer music by Danish outfit Mames Babegenush, and a folk song about a song from Devendra Banhart.
Hear music by the core members of The Good Ones – a band of Rwandan genocide survivors who write acoustic folk songs with unexpected vocal leads and harmonies. Their set features music that uses instruments at hand – sometimes farm tools, and sometimes boots - as percussion.
Listen to the sometimes manic, sometimes melancholy music by Danish giants of Klezmer Mames Babegenush. They play their Balkan and jazz-inflected music for dancing. Also, from the Venezuelan-American songwriter and artist Devendra Banhart, hear a gentle song about a song about someone named Carolina - in Portuguese. - Caryn Havlik
