Hear minimalist ambient techno done up as classical chamber orchestrations for this New Sounds with music by Detroit DJ and producer Carl Craig and Barcelona pianist Francesco Tristano.

Listen to work by influential Detroit-based DJ and producer Carl Craig, who is one of the folks leading the so-called second wave of Detroit techno. His tracks and remixes have become contemporary dance floor staples as well as adaptable material for classical musicians – which we’ll also hear in arrangements by Barcelona pianist Francesco Tristano. Now, Tristano also composes musical homages to club music, or works out solo piano arrangements of techno, house and other electronic dance music. 

Hear a few arrangements of minimalist ambient techno by Carl Craig performed by French ensemble Les Siècles, founded and led by François-Xavier Roth. Plus, listen to music by Francesco Tristano, which also gets the classical ensemble treatment, from a recent record by Carl Craig. There’s also music by Jeff Mills as arranged by Tristano, and more.
