#4075: Treated and Mistreated Pianos

Listen to music for pianos that have been electronically treated, or in some cases, physically mistreated, which dramatically changes the sound. Hear music by pianist, composer, engineer and producer, Kelly Moran, who on her work, Hyacinth, strums the piano strings on the inside and does other unconventional things to the instrument. Then, there’s electronically-treated music by the England-based duo of musician-producers called Nightports, with pianist Matthew Bourne, along with music from the Dusseldorf-based pianist and producer duo called Grandbrothers.

Also, hear music by Ross Bolleter made with a 40-year old bar piano left to the elements in the Australian Outback. There’s a work by the late Bob Samarotto, recorded in our studios in 1990, his Little Piano Book, which is a series of poems about studying the piano. Plus, listen to Victoria Jordanova's Requiem for Bosnia, where the piano is strummed, struck, and winds up serving as a entire battery of percussion instruments.
