#3973: Inspired by Tarkovsky
Hear music inspired by, or taken from, the influential films of Russian director & writer Andrei Tarkovsky. Listen to music by Ben Frost & Daníel Bjarnason - their take on “Solaris.” There’s also music in memory of Tarkovsky by Toru Takemitsu, and his composer Edward Artemiev. Plus, hear music from the Tarkovsky film “Stalker,” and more.
From the 1979 film, “Stalker,” hear the film score by the Russian electronic music composer Edward Artemiev. Then, listen to an alternate score for the classic 1972 Andrei Tarkovsky sci-fi film, “Solaris” in music inspired by the film from Ben Frost & Icelandic conductor/arranger/composer Daníel Bjarnason.
There’s also music by a unique band, founded by pianist Francois Couturier, calling itself the Tarkovsky Quartet. Their music is an inspired combination of piano, cello, soprano saxophone, and accordion. The quartet claims the films of Andrey Tarkovsky as part of their ever-expanding frame of reference, which includes group improvisations, as well as compositions of Bach & Shostakovich.
Plus, hear music dedicated to the director by his composer, Edward Artemiev, as well as a work from the Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu, and more.
