Next Stop, Folk-Pop

Soundcheck | May 3, 2010
Erin McKeown’s latest CD, "We Will Become Like Birds," maneuvers ornothology, poetry and dead languages, It opens with a song in Latin, and then settles into a record of simple, elegant folk-pop songs. She'll perform live in the studio. Later in the program, classical guitarist David Leisner will drop by to perform music by Scott Joplin and to talk about his remarkable career. An acclaimed composer and teacher, Leisner’s career was nearly cut short by a disabling hand injury that kept him from performing for more than a decade. He eventually adapted his playing technique to reduce the stress to his hand, and eventually experienced a complete recovery. His newest CD, Le Romantik, features the music of renowned 19th-century guitar virtuoso Johann Kaspar Mertz.
