What happens when you toss the status quo out the window? It's long been tradition for the symphony orchestra to look to a single music director as its de facto leader, but the Pittsburgh Symphony has recently elected a new approach&151;it will be led by three people: Andrew Davis as artistic adviser, Yan Pascal Tortelier as principal guest conductor and Marek Janowski as guest conductor in an endowed chair. Each of the conductors signed a three-year agreement that begins next season. Andrew Druckenbrod of the Pittsburgh Gazette will join us to talk about the new arrangement and what kind of a departure it actually represents for the orchestra community. First on the show, composer Randall Woolf talks about his new audio visual piece, "Women at an Exhibition," to be performed by the American Composers Orchestra this Wednesday.
