Of all of the instruments, none has been more obsessed over, more written about, or more mythologized than the violin. Today on Soundcheck, two of its most celebrated young performers, Sarah Chang and Joshua Bell, stop by to discuss its enduring appeal. It is often lamented that the concert world is overwhelmed with bland virtuosos who offer more technical prowess than personality. Yet Chang and Bell, two former child prodigies, have done better than most, in part by resurrecting old traditions while putting their own distinctive stamp on the repertoire.
