Jazz Giants

Sue Graham Mingus, the widow of the legendary bassist, band leader and composer Charles Mingus stops by to tell the story of their improbable love affair, marriage, and music-making. As she details in her recent book, Tonight at Noon: A Love Story, they were an unlikely couple, a debutante from a proper Midwestern family and an antiestablishment maverick from the Watts section of Los Angeles, "jazz's angry man." We’re also joined by jazz historian Ashley Kahn, author of A Love Supreme: The Story of John Coltrane's Signature Album, who reveals how the landmark 1964 album was made, where it was made, why it is so important and how it reached such a broad audience (it is one of the top-selling jazz albums of all time).
