Over the years, Gil Shaham’s recordings for Deutsche Grammophon have garnered both praise and sales. But the busy violinist recently took the path of many major artists by departing from a major label and producing his own CDs. We get a taste of the debut release—which features chamber music by his “unsung hero,” French composer Gabriel Fauré—as Shaham joins us with a live performance in the WNYC studio. Also, composer John Luther Adams visits from Alaska in advance of his new, WNYC-commissioned work “The Mathematics of Resonant Bodies” which premieres at the World Financial Center this week. The concert-length work for solo percussion and computer-processed sounds is described in the Los Angeles Times as “a massive new canvas... a 69-minute, eight-movement series of sonic environments.”
