Listening to the Living Earth

Tune in for music in celebration of the earth on Soundcheck. The Alaska-based composer John Luther Adams has been composing works that resound with the landscape in which he lives. He shares some of his history as an environmentalist, and some of his influences as a composer on his new CD, In the White Silence. We also speak with the creators of an Internet-based earthwork called MORI, in which minute movements of the Hayward Fault in California are measured by a seismograph, converted to digital signals, and transmitted continuously via the Internet to a sound installation. And the singer-songwriter Dar Williams performs live in the studio and discuss the role that the environmental movement plays in her work as a folk singer at the beginning of the 21st century.
