New York Times music writer James Oestreich talks with host John Schaefer about the much anticipated new EMI cycle of Beethoven Symphonies with Simon Rattle and the Vienna Philharmonic. The five-CD set has been released on the European market only, and many are proclaiming it a test case for the classical recording industry, however unfair the burden. And trumpet player Steven Bernstein will play some of his hypnotic grooves live in the studio.
