Although Danish composer Poul Ruders is best known for his opera The Handmaid’s Tale, he has composed many works for orchestra and chamber ensembles. He will stop by our studio to discuss the U.S. premiere of his piece “Listening Earth” by the New York Philhamonic, a work influenced by the tragic events of September 11th. Also on the program, Village Voice contributor Greg Tate stops by to talk about the introspective and spiritual side of improvisation, from Japanese shakuhachi flute music to John Coltrane.
