The members of the groundbreaking acoustic and electric string quartet called
Ethel have played with The Who’s Roger Daltrey and pop star Sheryl Crow,
and have collaborated with such celebrated New York composers as Steve Reich.
Along with the Cassatt and Lark quartets, Ethel appears on just-released recording
of works by Bang On A Can cofounder Julia Wolfe. The ensemble shares the Soundcheck
studio for a live performance and conversation about musical genre-busting with
the rollicking, raucous jazz/punk quartet gutbucket, who recently returned from
a triumphant tour of central Europe.
The string quartet comprised of Ralph Farris, Dorothy Lawson, Todd Reynolds, and Mary Rowell wasn’t named after a dead composer or poet. But the four musicians have played on a Poland Spring television commercial.

Band, Melvin Sparks, and Rebirth Brass Band, to name a few.
