Latin in Manhattan

Soundcheck | May 3, 2010
Isabel Soler and Barbara Romero, cofounders of Spanish troupe Danzas Españolas, stop by to demonstrate how there’s more to Spanish dance music than just flamenco. American pianist Cliff Korman has launched “Bossa Jazz” with his Brazilian Tinge Quintet, and he'll be joining us for a conversation about the Portuguese language and Brazilian rhythms, and a live performance. And pianist Adam Kent plays live in the studio and discusses how the allure of the Caribbean affected the work of Latin and non-Hispanic composers from around the world.
Cliff Korman continues to use the intersections and divergences between jazz and Brazilian instrumental music to develop the sound of his Brazilian Tinge Quintet.
