Poll Vault: Weiner Jumps Ahead of Quinn in Poll

Former Congressman Anthony Weiner has taken the lead among the Democrats in the race for mayor knocking Council Speaker Christine Quinn out of the top spot. That's according the latest poll by the Wall Street Journal / NBC 4 New York and Marist.

Weiner entered the race for mayor last month asking New Yorkers for a second chance. The latest poll numbers show a growing number of voters are willing to give him one.

Among registered Democrats, Weiner comes in at 25 percent, five points ahead of Christine Quinn. That means they've basically switched places since the last Marist poll conducted in late May.

Since then Quinn opponents have been going after her with an onslaught of negative ads. These are her lowest poll numbers since launching the campaign.

But the news isn't much better for the rest of the Democratic field. Bill Thompson came in at just 13 percent, even though the poll was conducted the same week he locked in an endorsement from the teachers union.

Bill de Blasio comes in at 10 percent and John Liu at just 8 percent. The poll was conducted the week of June 17. The margin of error for the Democrats is 3.7 percentage points.
