Gun Debate Comes to Jersey

Both New York and Connecticut have already passed bills in response  to the Newtown shootings. Now Trenton is set to take action even though it already has the strictest gun laws in the country.

New Jersey's Democratic Senate President Stephen Sweeney has introduced a 12-bill package that would establish an electronic system for instant background checks , give the state the power to seize  motor vehicles used to traffic guns and state pension funds would be prohibited from investing in any public traded company that makes, imports or sells assault rifles for civilian use.

Democratic Senator Loretta Weinberg  says the Democratic proposals overlap with suggestions made by the governor's panel to increase access to mental health counseling.

 "So you need  24-7  mental health resources  and I know that the Governor's  task force, and hopefully the Governor,  will realize  that involves  putting  resources into  those kinds of facilities," Weinberg said.
