Rock 'N' Roll Day Trip: Hudson River Valley

Soundcheck | Mar 26, 2013

The last time Lonely Planet's US editor Robert Reid was on the show, he shared Rock and Roll travel destinations, from St. Louis to Stonehenge. Now, he's back with a trip that's as easy as a train ride away.

Find out about a Hudson River Valley weekender that includes the Woodstock Museum, a kitschy boutique hotel from one of the members of the B-52’s, intimate ‘Midnight Ramble’ concerts at the home of the late musician Levon Helm, and more.

--

Woodstock Museum, Bethel: A multi-media experience that tells the story of the sixties, the Woodstock music festival, and its legacy today.

Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble: The late musician Levon Helm, known for his work with The Band, hosted intimate concerts at his home in Woodstock until his death in 2012. Now, they continue to go on, in his memory.

A stay at Lazy Meadow: Spend the night at a motor lodge designed by The B-52s' Kate Pierson, and "Love Shack" music video decorators.

The "Big Pink" house. It's an actual pink house in West Saugerties where Bob Dylan wrote and recorded The Basement Tapes. The Band wrote much of its 1968 album Music From Big Pink there. Did we mention it was pink?
