Robyn Hitchcock Turns 60 And Sends 'Love From London'

Since founding art rock band The Soft Boys in 1976, the prolific songwriter Robyn Hitchcock has become a cult favorite -- a kind of alt-rock godfather. Now, the singer and songwriter is gearing up to celebrate both a pretty significant birthday, his 60th, and the release of his brand new album, Love From London.

Hitchcock says Love From London "is all very British done...the whole thing was recorded in a bedroom in East London. A small room full of books and recording gear."

And, he tells us about his 2008 environmental expedition into the Arctic with Cape Farewell, and the song that resulted, called "There Goes The Ice." "How effective artists being made aware of this is a moot point - we don't know. But I suppose it has to start somewhere." Hitchcock says. "I'm not a politician or an environmentalist, but this is happening. So even a self-involved artist like myself -- it's coming out of the Robyn Hitchcock channel."
