Schoolhouse Rock: Educational Mac 'N Cheese

Soundcheck | Feb 7, 2013

If you were a kid in the '70s or '80s you might’ve learned about conjunctions, adverbs, even the constitution not from school, but from a series of animated musical shorts called Schoolhouse Rock. That's how Soundcheck contributor Faith Salie remembers it: "I honestly don’t remember watching Saturday morning cartoons when I was kid," she says, "but I do remember Schoolhouse Rock. Conduct a poll of 35-45 year-olds, and I guarantee you that a vast majority of them will tell you they learned the meaning of "suffrage" and the Preamble to the Constitution from Schoolhouse Rock."

Looks like she's right -- and we have proof. Hear Salie, John Schaefer, and listeners sing their way through some of their favorite songs. And, hear how teachers and parents continue to use Schoolhouse Rock's lessons and catchy tunes today.
