Apocalypse Now? Our 'End Of The World' Special

Soundcheck | Dec 21, 2012

Well, here we are: 12-21-2012. You know, the day on which the world should end, according to some widely debunked theories about the Mayan calendar. So in these end times (just in case those theories turn out to actually be true) we thought we'd spend some time looking at why the apocalypse is such a big part of pop culture.

Back in 2009 we talked with radio host and reporter Gary Burton and Elayne Rapping, professor of American Studies and Media Studies at the University of Buffalo, about apocalyptic visions in film, literature and, of course, music. We revisit that conversation today, and we hear some great end-of-times tunes.

Listeners: What is your favorite artistic vision of the End of Times? Tell us here.
