Listening Party: An Hour with Claire Chase

Today from 3-4 pm, Q2 Music celebrates flutist Claire Chase's 2012 MacArthur Fellowship with an hour of experimental music from Chase and her esteemed International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE). Featured in this program are works for solo flute including Dai Fujikura's Glacier, Franco Donatoni's Fili and Edgard Varese's Density 21.5, as well as ensemble pieces from Kaija Saariaho and John Adams and Marcos Balter's Edgewater from a live recording during the 2011 SONiC Festival in New York. 

Founded in 2001, the International Contemporary Ensemble has carved a unique and compelling reputation, bridging the worlds of New York's most venerable institutions — they were ensemble-in-residence during this past Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center — and its most promising, emerging venues, performing at the construction site of Williamsburg's Original Music Workshop. Under artistic director Claire Chase's leadership, ICE has combined a devout musicality with a fearless entrepreneurial spirit that has resulted in hundreds of premiere performances in the United States and abroad.
