Oregon has never ranked well in its per capita spending on the arts — at one point it even placed 52nd in the nation, because the charts included US territories like Guam. In that environment, arts groups must make creative decisions about how to survive. Producer Dmae Roberts spoke with two theatre companies in Portland, Oregon to find out how they do it.
