After coasting to the big time in 2005 with a self-titled album and a do-it-yourself origin myth that critics and fans found irresistible, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah became the band to beat. The group's 2007 sophomore album, Some Loud Thunder, got a chillier response, which prompted the band to work on other projects before returning to the studio.

The break paid off. With its third album, Hysterical, the band brings the singable melodies and group hug vibe it's known for, as well as some more introspective tracks. The song "Same Mistake" has the perfectly jump-able beat and a melody that's worthy of a closed-eyed sing-along. An eensy bit of fuzz comes through when all of the band members are slamming away at their respective instruments, giving the song some low-fi authenticity and a nostalgic twinge that goes great with the beginning of autumn.
