Portraits, Chuck Close, Duke Ellington

Studio 360 | Sep 17, 2011

We look at what portraits reveal, both truthfully and in lies. Kurt Andersen and his guest, the photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, discuss what goes into great portrait-making — from the 9-foot canvases of Chuck Close to Duke Ellington's compositions. We’ll also rediscover the work of printmaker Dox Thrash and remember Moe Foner, a union leader as committed to the arts as he was to the labor movement.
