This September, Asian-American jazz pianist Helen Sung released Going Express, a live album recorded at the Jazz Standard. The album comes after four previous studio and live releases for the Houston, Texas native, including a classical-jazz album called Sungbird After Albeniz that won her some heavy praise. On the new album, Sung’s technical mastery of the piano and gripping, blustery solo style continues to shine, as heard with her quartet on this track “Hope Springs Eternally.” Tuesday night, she returns to the Standard for a one-night engagement.
