“If you like true-crime podcasts… have I got the podcast for you” -- The New Yorker

(New York, NY -- September 18, 2019) -- Today, WNYC Studios and ProPublica kick off a new season of Trump, Inc., the duPont-Columbia award-winning podcast that examines the flows of money in, around, and through President Trump’s administration, documenting in real time the unprecedented intermingling of private profit and public interest in the executive branch of the federal government.

The new season -- an “open investigation” with fresh episodes every two weeks co-hosted by WNYC reporters Andrea Bernstein and Ilya Marritz -- will pay particular attention to the business of the 2020 campaign and the way the very rich in America ply the levers of government, as well as continue to examine the ways Trump’s private business decisions benefit his presidency.

The season kicks off with two back-to-back episodes, out today and tomorrow:

  • The Family Business: Trump, Inc. takes a step back to make sense of the seemingly endless scandals swirling around the White House. They're not random. They fit a pattern and they do have a precedent. It turns out, Trump is running the government a lot like he's run his business: bluster, boss-ism, and ignoring the rules.
  • Brad Parscale (out tomorrow): To set the stage for its focus on the business of the 2020 campaign, Trump, Inc. presents an in-depth profile of Trump’s 2020 campaign manager, Brad Parscale. Through his work for Trump, Parscale has skyrocketed from a no-name web developer to digital campaign strategist, and is now the manager of what could be the biggest political fundraising effort in American history. And just like his boss, Parscale plays fast and loose with the facts of his own life and business. We untangle his rise to power, and follow the money being raised by the President's right-hand man.

“We’ve done dozens of episodes over the past 18 months, detailing how predatory lenders are paying the president, how Trump has profited from his own inauguration and how Trump’s friends have sought to use their access in pursuit of profit,” said Eric Umansky, Deputy Managing Editor of ProPublica. “We’ve noticed something along the way. It’s not just that the president has mixed his business and governing. It’s that the way Trump does business is spreading across the government. That’s what we’ll be exploring more of this season.”
