New Season Kicks Off Today With “I’ve Been Meaning to Tell You…”
Interactive Project That Invites Listeners to Just Say It Already
(New York, NY – September 24, 2018) – Nancy, the critically-acclaimed podcast from WNYC Studios about the LGBTQ experience, hosted by Tobin Low and Kathy Tu, returns today and will now be released in a weekly format.
The episode out today features Jason Kim, a writer for hit TV shows such as Girls and Love. The story follows Jason’s journey to confront his father about why he won’t accept Jason’s kidney, when doing so might save his father’s life. The conversation doesn’t go quite as planned.
In the spirit of this story, Nancy is also launching a new listener-driven project, “I’ve Been Meaning to Tell You….” Listeners can share things they’ve been meaning to tell a parent, a friend, a co-worker, but haven’t. Select recordings will be used in an upcoming episode of Nancy. To participate in the “I’ve Been Meaning to Tell You…” project, go to nancypodcast.org/tell.
In addition, upcoming episodes of Nancy will include:
- Conversations with Emmy Award winner Samira Wiley, gun-reform activist Emma Gonzalez, Grammy-nominated musician Katie Herzig, and culture critic Ira Madison III;
- A quixotic mission to solve the case of a mysterious pair of cutoff denim shorts;
- The story of two estranged siblings seeking to reunite through music;
- A series on money, and all the things about it that straight people never have to think about;
- The making and re-making of The Laramie Project, one of the most performed plays in the world.
“Nancy is more than a show,” said Tu. “It’s a community. We’re excited to connect our audience with ideas, stories, tastemakers, newsmakers, and each other on a weekly basis.”
“So many of the stories we’ve done on the show are about people sharing things – big and little – that have the power to change their lives,” said Low. “That’s why I’m excited to extend the invitation to our listeners to do the same. We hope to hear from you for our I’ve Been Meaning To Tell You… project.”
Kathy Tu and Tobin Low will also make a number of public appearances this year, including at the Third Coast International Audio Festival in Chicago (Oct. 4-6), The Museum of Science in Boston (Oct. 17), the Hot Docs Podcast Festival in Toronto (Nov. 1), and at the WERK IT Women’s Podcast Festival in New York City (Nov. 13-14).
Hailed as a top podcast by Entertainment Weekly and TIME, with Nancy, Tu and Low have frank conversations, share poignant stories, and undertake what VICE calls “a gentle investigation into the courage it takes to live outside social norms.”
Nancy is available to listeners at nancypodcast.org, Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts, and all other places where podcasts may be downloaded.
