A series of events began Saturday in Lewis’ hometown of Troy, Alabama, to pay tribute to his legacy. He will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol Monday, before his private funeral Thursday.

Some 6,000 people attended a public memorial service on Monday in Houston, where George Floyd grew up. His funeral today will be private.

Al Sharpton and Floyd family attorney Ben Crump will speak at the service today in Minneapolis. Floyd’s body will then go to North Carolina and Houston for public viewings and services.

At a protest in Brooklyn on Friday, police sprayed an eye-irritating chemical into the crowd multiple times. One video showed an officer slam a woman to the ground.

Video showed at least one demonstrator being clubbed. The police department said one officer was struck with a garbage can and another punched.

The rare undertaking to impeach a president is set to unfold over more than six hours of debate today, with one-by-one votes on each article of impeachment.

This comes after Thursday's nearly 14-hour debate session that was expected to end with the formal charges being sent to the full House for a vote next week.
